Dear readers
I am currently in the process of building a 1/6 model of the classic Lancaster Bomber.
My intention is to theme the model around the 617 Squadron that carried out dam bombing raids in Nazi Germany during 1943, the pilot’s features will be based on those of the famous pilot Guy-Gibson.
The model is based on a Tony Nijhuis plan which I obtained from Slec-UK. Slec-UK CNC all the individual pieces of the model from top quality wood and also provide all the balsa necessary to build the kit.
When building such a large model plane it is advised that you receive help and advice from the Large Model Association (LMA). If your model is over 20kgs in weight it is a legal requirement that you have the model inspected throughout the build.
Model Specifications:
| Wing Span: | 17ft |
| Length: | 12ft |
| Weight: | 55-70Kgs |
| Powered By: | 4 x Zennoha engines |
| Radio |
Futaba Field Force 9, 2x Recivers |
You can follow my progress on this site as I will be updating my build log with pictures of the various build stages.
If you feel that you could add anything to my build experience or would like to discuss any aspect of the build process please feel free to contact me.
